About the Author
Pastor Mark Swarbrick, emeritus, attended the University of Illinois and received his diploma in Ministerial Studies from the Berean School of the Bible, Global University, an accredited college affiliated with the Assemblies of God. He was ordained by the Assemblies of God and held positions as youth pastor and assistant pastor. Mark was senior pastor of an Assembly of God in Arizona for five years. Mark currently holds ordination papers with Impact Ministries International. He is a published author and is an inspirational writer/speaker. P.S. I’m also currently reading attorney Hunter Lundy’s book Let Us Prey, about how he defended Marvin Gorman during his defamation lawsuit against Jimmy Swaggart. I knew that you used Lundy’s book as research for your Swaggartism book and you quoted from it a few times in your book, so I decided to check out the rest of Lundy’s story. I’m in utter shock and disgust at most of what I’ve read so far. Swaggart tried to get the prostitute to include her 9 year old daughter in their sex encounters. Not only that but he also tried to get a married woman, a stripper he was seeing, to have sex with her husband and 13 year old daughter in front of him for entertainment. What a creep! If those accusations are true he should’ve been thrown in jail years ago.
Hi Brad, Lundy’s book is a fascinating read. It really gives one insight into Swaggart’s twisted character. It is just incredible that Swaggart’s followers want to bury their head in the sand and pretend these things don’t matter.
Yes it’s sad. I think it’s his preaching style and musical talents that has them convinced he’s real. They always says things like “He’s repented of his past sins and God has forgiven him, so we must forgive him too.” But how do they know for sure he’s repented? They only know his TV image, they don’t know what he does in private. Most of them only just know about his prostitution scandals and probably aren’t aware of the more revealing stuff in Lundy’s book.
