Liberalism and Christianity stand in opposition. Where Christianity submits to God’s Word, liberalism exalts human opinion, cultural trends, and political agendas. Whether it goes by the name leftist, left wing, leftism, wokeism, or simply liberalism, it is all the same destructive worldview — one that denies God’s authority and produces moral chaos. Liberalism and Christianity – A Biblical Response

The contrast between liberalism vs Christianity could not be more stark. Christianity calls men and women to repentance, holiness, chastity, and obedience to God’s Word. Liberalism, on the other hand, exalts self-rule, moral relativism, and open rebellion against God’s design. As a result, liberalism drives movements that normalize sexual perversions such as homosexuality and transgenderism, promotes abortion as acceptable, and encourages countless other sins that the Bible plainly condemns.

Liberalism and Wokeism

Wokeism — sometimes spelled wokism — is liberalism on steroids. It extends liberal ideology into every corner of life: gender identity, race politics, censorship of opposing views, and attempts to silence biblical truth. Wokeism masquerades as compassion, but its fruit is lawlessness, division, and tyranny. Leftism, or the left-wing ideology, is simply another name for liberalism. Under the banners of socialism and communism, leftist movements have consistently undermined faith, family, and freedom. Liberalism, expressed in leftism, pushes open borders, government control, gun restrictions, and attacks on free speech — all of which oppose the biblical principles of order, self-government, and truth. Is liberalism a religion? In many ways, yes. It has its own doctrines, high priests, and heresies. The cult of liberalism worships the self, trusts in government as savior, and despises the God of Scripture. Like every false religion, it promises liberation but delivers bondage.

Liberalism and Christianity Cannot Mix

Christianity and liberalism are oil and water. The attempt to merge liberalism and Christianity produces compromise and deception. Liberal theology strips the Bible of authority, redefines sin, and leaves people without the gospel that saves. The Apostle Paul warned of those who “have a form of godliness but deny its power.” That is the essence of liberal Christianity.

History proves the danger. From the French Revolution to modern socialism, liberalism has left behind shortages, repression, and despair. Today’s woke and leftist movements follow the same path — eroding freedoms, corrupting morality, and opposing the church. At its core, liberalism hates Christianity. In America, the Democratic Party has become the vanguard of liberalism, carrying its agenda into every sphere of culture and government.

This hostility is not theoretical but demonstrated in action — for example, at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Party platform deliberately removed all references to God from its official literature, and at the 2020 Democratic National Convention the words “one nation under God” were intentionally removed from the Pledge of Allegiance in two of the convention’s meetings. These acts reveal the contempt of liberalism for biblical faith. The clash between liberalism and Christianity is unavoidable. Yet the answer is unchanged: stand firm on the Word of God, proclaim Christ without compromise, and expose the deception of liberalism.
