The Word of Faith Movement promises health, wealth, and blessing to those with enough faith. Also called the Health and Wealth Gospel — nicknamed “Name It and Claim It” and “Gab It and Grab It” — it teaches that believers can speak things into existence, demand healing, or unlock riches through positive confession. In practice, this replaces God’s sovereignty with human declarations and leaves many believers hurt and disillusioned.
Prosperity Gospel Dangers
The movement reduces Christianity to a transaction for health and wealth, twisting Scripture to promise guarantees God never made. It has split churches, produced guilt when promised results do not come, and left many in financial hardship.
Name It and Claim It False Teaching
This system treats words like spiritual power tools — declare it and it becomes reality. The Bible calls us to ask in faith while submitting to God’s will, not to command outcomes or deny obvious realities like sickness and hardship.
Word of Faith Movement False Teaching
Many teachers claim believers are “little gods” with creative power to speak reality into existence — a metaphysical idea repackaged in Christian language, not historic doctrine, and long promoted by the cult of Christian Science.
How Word of Faith Teachers Get Rich
Faith preachers make merchandise of their followers by turning the gospel into a money scheme. They promise that if believers give generously to them, God will make the givers rich. In reality, this seed-faith formula enriches the preachers themselves while many followers are left disappointed, misled, and financially burdened.
Is the Prosperity Gospel Biblical
Scripture warns against the love of money and prepares believers for trials. The apostles knew lack as well as plenty and trusted God’s wisdom when He said no. Biblical prayer is humble and submitted to God’s will — “Not my will, but Thine be done” — and remembers that we “see through a glass darkly,” trusting His wisdom rather than our declarations.
