I grew up in the 50s and 60s. Back then, people said, “Happy Thanksgiving” to each other. On Christmas, it was “Merry Christmas!” Everyone knew that Thanksgiving was about giving thanks to God for his blessings, and Christmas was all about our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. For some reason, that all got changed to Happy Holidays.
Happy Holidays or Happy Holy Days

We all know that Christmas is all about Christ, but New Year’s Day is about Jesus as well. January 1st was selected to begin the new year because that is eight days after Christmas, the day that Jesus would have been presented at the temple and dedicated to God in the rite of circumcision. The word “holidays” is short for “holy days.” Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are all holy days for Americans.
But not so today. Now all you hear is “Happy Holidays.” Why? It is because of the secularization of America. They don’t want to say “Christ” unless using it as a cuss word, so they won’t say Merry Christmas. They don’t want to mention giving thanks to God, so they won’t say Happy Thanksgiving. New generations have grown up without God in their lives or parents who raised them in church, thus we have a populace that is averse to anything Christian.
Abandoning Our Heritage
So, today there is a big push to eliminate from our society any reflection of Christianity. Just a few years ago, the Democratic National Convention voted to remove all references to “God” and “Jerusalem” from their literature. The liberals are not content with freedom of religion, they want freedom from religion. Nowadays, in the place of Christianity, the new religions of global warming, humanism, and evolution are promulgated.
The left wants to eliminate any reference to God in public discourse. After all, they can’t be reminded of God without being made to feel uncomfortable about their sexual promiscuity and worldly philosophies. Thus, all references to God must become taboo.
The Democrats even went so far as to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance at the 2020 Democrat National Convention. The “One nation under God” phrase was altered in two of the convention’s meetings. The speaker leading the pledge made a long pause after “one nation” to emphasize that they were deliberately leaving out “under God.”
But to deny that we are one nation under God is to deny the founding documents of our country, which verbally recognize that our rights and liberties are given by God. Whether the leftists like it or not, Christianity is the religious heritage of our country. The words of President Ronald Reagan are apropos: “If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
America – A Christian Nation
It grates across my nerves when I hear someone say “Happy Holidays.” The Christophobic God haters are changing our culture to one which denies the Son of God. They are deniers of reality – the reality that we were founded as a Christian nation. In 1892 the United States Supreme Court declared:
“Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon, and embody the teachings of, the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian. This is a Christian nation.”
Next time you hear “Happy Holidays,” just give them a big smile and say:
“It’s called Christmas with a capital C!
You can call it something else, but that’s not what it’ll be!
It’s called Christmas, with a capital C!”
