Canada recognizes Palestine — but this decision, along with any plan for a two state solution, is not only misguided; it is fundamentally disconnected from historical and political reality. The term “Palestine” is often used to evoke sympathy for a people portrayed as oppressed and stateless, but the truth is far more complex—and inconvenient for those who pander to popular narratives.
The Myth of a Palestinian Nation
Let’s be clear: there is no such country as Palestine. There never has been. No sovereign nation called “Palestine” has ever existed with its own government, borders, currency, or institutions. The area commonly referred to as Palestine was a territory under British control after World War I and before that, part of the Ottoman Empire. The name “Palestine” itself was imposed by the Romans in the second century as a deliberate insult to the Jewish people, naming the land after their ancient enemies, the Philistines.
The modern push for Palestinian statehood gained traction only after Israel became a nation in 1948. Prior to that, Arabs living in the region never identified themselves as Palestinians in the sense of a separate national identity. During the British Mandate, it was often the Jews who were referred to as Palestinians in newspapers and official documents. Arabs in the region considered themselves part of Greater Syria or simply as Arabs. The concept of a Palestinian national identity emerged primarily as a political tool to oppose the existence of Israel.
Canada recognizes Palestine against Biblical Warning
Canada has now joined the United Kingdom and France in pledging to recognize a Palestinian state if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada’s recognition will be formally presented at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025. This recognition is conditional on the Palestinian Authority holding legitimate elections by 2026, demilitarizing, and excluding Hamas from governance. Yet such conditions are rarely enforced and often ignored once recognition is granted.
The so-called ‘Palestinian Territories’ that Canada proposes to recognize are, in reality, lands that lie entirely within the borders that God defined in the Bible as belonging to Israel in perpetuity. From a biblical worldview, dividing this land is not only unwise—it is rebellion against God’s revealed plan. Joel 3:2 says, “I will gather all nations… I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.”
The Two-State Illusion and the Reality of Terrorism
The idea of a two-state solution is not new. It has been offered repeatedly—and consistently rejected by Palestinian leadership. In 1947, the UN offered partition. Israel said yes; the Arabs said no. Subsequent offers met the same fate. What the Palestinian leadership has consistently rejected is not the borders of Israel, but the very existence of Israel.
The Gaza Strip was a real-world experiment in the two-state solution. In 2005, Israel withdrew entirely, forcibly removing its own citizens and leaving Gaza to Palestinian control. Instead of building a peaceful, self-governed region, Hamas turned Gaza into a terrorist launching pad—firing rockets at Israeli civilians and digging tunnels to infiltrate Israeli towns. To now propose carving up more of Israel for another such failed state is not only foolish—it rewards terrorism and encourages further bloodshed.
The grim reality that many in the West choose to ignore is that the Palestinian people have repeatedly empowered terrorist organizations whose stated goals are not peaceful coexistence, but the complete destruction of Israel. In the 2006 parliamentary elections, the Palestinian people voted Hamas—a group internationally recognized as a terrorist organization—into power. Hamas’s charter explicitly calls for the eradication of Israel and glorifies violent jihad. Their slogan, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” is a thinly veiled call for the elimination of the Jewish state.
This is not a fringe ideology; it is mainstream among the leadership that Palestinians have chosen to represent them. The Palestinian Authority, while more diplomatically polished, continues to glorify terrorists, pay stipends to the families of suicide bombers, and incite hatred through school curricula and state-run media. These actions reveal that the true aim of much of the Palestinian leadership is not peaceful statehood, but rather the conquest of all of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic Palestine in its place. Until this genocidal ambition is abandoned, peace will remain impossible—and rewarding such entities with statehood only emboldens their violence. The fact is, the Palestinian attack by Hamas upon Israeli civilians on October 7th, 2023 did not happen because Palestinians did not have a state; it happened because they had one—Gaza.
The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
Many in the Western media have adopted a dangerously misleading narrative that blames Israel for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. But this is a distortion of reality. The true source of suffering in Gaza is Hamas—a terrorist organization that prioritizes jihad over the welfare of its own people. Hamas has turned schools and hospitals into military outposts, stored weapons in civilian neighborhoods, and used its own citizens as human shields. Israel, in contrast, has consistently allowed humanitarian aid into Gaza, even in the midst of hostilities. Food, water, fuel, and medical supplies regularly enter through Israeli checkpoints.
Yet much of this aid never reaches the people who need it. Hamas routinely intercepts supplies to support its military objectives, diverts fuel for rocket manufacturing, and steals food to distribute selectively for propaganda purposes. To blame Israel is to ignore the fact that no other nation in history has made such consistent efforts to protect enemy civilians while under constant threat of rocket fire and terrorism.
Moreover, sensationalist headlines accusing Israeli soldiers of shooting unarmed Gazans are often based on unverified claims or footage produced by Hamas-controlled sources. These reports are frequently staged or manipulated to inflame global opinion. Israel’s military operates under strict ethical codes and takes extraordinary measures to minimize civilian casualties. Mistakes in war may happen, but the systematic targeting of civilians is not Israeli policy—it is Hamas’s.
Tragically, many governments in Europe and across the world have embraced a false narrative crafted by terrorists. In doing so, they not only slander Israel but also enable Hamas to continue its tyranny over the people of Gaza. Worse still, those who help propagate this antisemitic misinformation are not just maligning God’s chosen people—they are unwittingly contributing to the continuation of war, oppression, and hunger in Gaza.
Canada recognizes Palestine — Truth Over Fantasy
No nation should be recognized unless it meets the basic criteria of statehood: a defined territory, a permanent population, a functioning government, and the capacity to enter into peaceful relations with other states. “Palestine” fails on nearly every count. Instead of promoting peace, Canada’s virtue-signaling move only emboldens extremism and undermines the prospects for a genuine, negotiated solution.
Recognizing a fantasy doesn’t make it real. Canada, the UK, and France should reconsider their stance and return to a position grounded in truth and responsibility rather than appeasing popular narratives that distort history and reward hatred and antisemitism.
