The Evil of Socialism

By Mark W. Swarbrick

Communism – What’s So Bad About It?

The liberal Democrats are working tirelessly to convert us to a communist/socialist country. They are dangerously successful because so many in America have not been taught the dangers of socialism. So it behooves us to ask, what is so bad about socialism and communism?  It is unfortunate that such a question must be answered. For those of us who grew up during the cold war and practiced ducking under our school desks as a drill for a nuclear attack from Communist Russia, we learned at an early age that Communism was an evil godless ideology of atheistic totalitarian control that yearned to take over the world. We didn’t have to ask. We knew Communism was evil.

That was before the dumbing-down of America. Today our schools no longer teach what made America great or even that America is great. Students are no longer taught why American Capitalism is far superior to Communism. Liberal left-wing professors now spend their time teaching the younger generation that Capitalism is evil and that Communism needs to be given another chance. This, in spite of the fact that Communism has failed in the Soviet Union, has impoverished and enslaved Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, to name just a few.

So let’s do a quick crash course on the benefits of Capitalism and the horrors of Communism. Then we shall consider how Satan has used and is using Communism to achieve his goals.

Communism Defined

Communism is an implementation of Socialism. Communism and Socialism are, at their root, the same philosophy, the only difference being that Communism is a more extreme version of Socialism. Communism denies private ownership of land and the means of production. In other words, with Communism the government owns the farms and factories; virtually all business. Socialism however takes individual money and property more subtly through taxes, as well as government “bail-out” and entitlement programs. At the heart of socialism is the belief that government, specifically a socialist government, is the key to human salvation.

Socialism was popularized by German philosopher Carl Marx in the 19th Century. Marx believed that all the ills of society – crime, unemployment, poverty – were all the result of “class envy” brought on by Capitalism. In Marx’s mind it was the struggle of the haves against the have-nots that caused all of society’s evils. He postulated that if everyone could be economically equal then a perfect utopia would be created. Thieves would not longer steal, perverts would reform themselves and cruel criminals would have an epiphany and suddenly become nice, if only socialism could be implemented.

The Fruit of Socialism

While Marx thought that socialism would naturally take over the world, Russian revolutionist Lenin thought otherwise. He believed Marxism needed to be implemented by military force. This idea brought about the Russian revolution of 1917 which culminated in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). How much “force” was needed for Lenin’s regime to implement Communism? Twenty million innocent civilians had to die.[1] Freedom died as well. In the Soviet Union you could only live and work where the government told you. Millions tried to leave their home country in order to escape the repressive regime. To stop this exodus they built the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall and machine-gunned anyone trying to leave the country. That is the Communist utopia.

Socialist and Communist societies typically embrace atheism. “Religion is the opiate of the people” is one of the most frequently quoted statements of Karl Marx. His meaning was that there was no real intrinsic truth or reality to religious belief. It was only a fantasy of the mind created to help endure the sufferings of the world. Marx promulgated the abolition of religion as consistent with the elimination of suffering through Socialism.

Socialsim: It Loves Evolution – Hates Christianity and Capitalism

In Russia, as in most communist countries, Christianity was practically outlawed and evolutionary atheism became the official state position. Although some mainline denominations were “licensed” by the government in order to present a façade of religious freedom, such churches were closely monitored and personal involvement in a church could easily get a person on a “watch” list. Any perceived anti-government ideas were quickly stamped out through torture and murder. Anyone actually practicing true born-again Christianity or attempting to hold a Bible study would be in danger of being arrested. The Bible was banned from import into Communist Russia.

Communists also fanatically believe that in order for their method of government to succeed completely, Capitalism must be eliminated from the world. Totalitarian governments always need an enemy to blame in order to incite the people to support their cause. Nothing unites a people more than believing they are under attack and fighting a common enemy. Upon this “enemy” is heaped all the blame for the lack of success for their system. For Hitler it was the Jews who were the designated enemy. They killed six million of them. Communism’s enemy is any Capitalist country plus anyone in their own country that doesn’t buy into the Communist ideal. The Russians massacred twenty million people in the name of Communism – a holocaust bigger than the Jewish holocaust.

The mindset that Capitalism prevents Communism from working is what led the Soviet Union to be expansionist, attempting to foment dissatisfaction, rebellion and war in countries where they felt a Communist overthrow might be possible. America, of course, stood against this invasion of freedom. President John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address of 1961 said, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty.” Five years prior Soviet premier Khrushchev while addressing Western ambassadors at a reception at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956 declared angrily, “About the capitalist states…Whether you like it or not…We will bury you…Your children will be Communists!”[2] Thus was born the cold war – a Mexican stand-off of two nuclear powers, both having the capability of destroying the earth many times over. Only American military might prevented the entire world from being forced into Communism.

We stopped Communism in Korea and saved South Korea. Now Communist North Korean’s are starved of food and freedom while South Korea flourishes under free market Capitalism. Christianity flourishes in South Korea. The largest Christian church in the world is located in Seoul, South Korea: Yoido Full Gospel Church (Assemblies of God) is the world’s largest congregation with a membership of 1,000,000 (as of 2007[update]). It is still growing. In Communist North Korea, where Christianity is outlawed, believers are routinely tortured and executed.

What Really Happened in Vietnam?

In Vietnam, North Vietnamese Communists, stirred up and aided by Communist Russia, invaded the country of South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese government begged us to help them. We did and thus was born the Vietnam War. Part of the reasoning for the Vietnam War was the Domino Theory, which held that if one country is allowed to fall to Communism others would soon follow.

To say that we lost the Vietnam War is an oversimplification. Here is what really happened. Our purpose was to stop the invasion of South Vietnam. In that we succeeded. In late 1972 President Nixon ordered the bombing of Hanoi and Haiphong. This made North Vietnam ready to talk peace. In 1973 an agreement was reached that included North Vietnam’s promise not to invade the South and our commitment to South Vietnam to defend them if that happened. The war was over and we had accomplished our goal of stopping the invasion of South Vietnam.

But then came the 94th Congress. Controlled by liberal democrats, who were influenced by the dope-smoking peaceniks, they had no intention of letting America keep its commitment to South Vietnam. After American troops were gone North Vietnamese troops tested our resolve by making incursions in various places into the South. Then they waited to see what we would do about it. Sadly, we did nothing, which only encouraged their aggression.

President Ford begged the Congress to provide military aid, to allow him to do something. Instead they tied his hands further. Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act of 1974, cutting off all military aid to South Vietnam and removing the president’s option of air strikes should North Vietnam break the terms of the peace accords. President Ford, along with the president of South Vietnam, pleaded with our Congress not to let South Vietnam fall and let the deaths of 58,000 of our GIs have been in vain. All that was needed was a little support to South Vietnam and the North would back off. The Communist North had already lost 1.1 million lives and they were not about to restart the war if we were committed to defending the south.

But Congress would not budge. They were afraid of the media and the peace movement, about which something must be said. The peace movement was comprised of young hippies and society drop-outs that had no idea what they were talking about. The had it in their head that our government was playing the war-monger and that if we just gave up and went home everything would be hunky-dory in Vietnam. “Just give peace a chance,” and “Make love not war,” were some of their slogans. They had no idea what was at stake or why we were fighting. They ridiculed the Domino Theory.

While in rebellion to their parents and society and not knowing God or the Bible, they suffered with a spiritual barrenness in their being. So they satiated themselves with drugs and tried to fill their emptiness with civil disobedience and disruption. It made them feel righteous, superior and noble to stand up to the federal government and cry for peace. While they destroyed their minds with LSD and rebelled against law and order, they considered themselves morally superior because they were for “peace.”

Hollywood and the news media became willing accomplices and together they put enough political pressure on Congress to get them to get America to commit character assassination upon itself. Countries the world over watched as America reneged on its promises to South Vietnam. Once the North Vietnamese saw that we were going to do nothing, they invaded South Vietnam and it quickly fell to the Communists within two years of our withdrawal. All of our blood, sweat and tears were for naught. We had won the war. We had saved Vietnam. But the peaceniks, the media and the 94th Congress shamefully let it all go to the Communists. Freedom died in South Vietnam. Today there is no religious freedom in Vietnam. Christians are persecuted and their churches are outlawed. Only “licensed government controlled” churches are allowed to exist.

In 1975 the free-love peaceniks and the news media got the peace in Vietnam they had campaigned so long for. And in only the first year of “peace” more people died in Vietnam than in all the previous years of the war put together![3] This was not reported in the news media at the time, but it is an established fact of history. Millions died. They were tortured, butchered and raped or sent to “reeducation camps” or incarcerated as political prisoners. And the Domino Theory was proved correct. Cambodia and Laos soon quickly fell to the Communists also.

There was a mass exodus from South Vietnam as people tried to escape the cruelty of Communism, but there was no where to go except into the ocean. In South Vietnam one million people floated out to sea on makeshift rafts, row boats and just about anything that would float. One half of these “boat people” – 500,000 of them – drowned in the sea. But this was only the beginning of sorrows.

In Cambodia the Communists herded three million people out of the cities in one day, putting them to a forced march. If anyone refused or complained they were instantly killed. They put them to slave labor in the fields, forcing them to work until they dropped dead. Then they bulldozed them into mass graves. Bruce Herschensohn in his book An American Amnesia tells of the Communist cruelty in Cambodia:

On the trek to the fields it was a capitol offense to complain to guards about the food. It was a capitol offense to talk to one another. The next day all married couples were separated, their children taken away, or compelled to watch their parents tortured and executed, often by decapitation, while the chief method of execution was to have the person’s skull smashed by hammer. Children were forced to watch their parents lined up with others, each person in each row having their skulls smashed by Khmer Rouge with hammers, and the same fate came later for selected children…Public executions were held throughout the country, and starvation was rampant. All street signs were whitewashed. All money was declared illegal, with rice as the only currency. Medical facilities, religious temples, postal, telegraph and telephone communications were destroyed. Death was the sentence for having a radio or having any timepiece or dozing at work. Flirting was considered to be promiscuity punishable by death. All people had to wear black tops and black pants. Atheism was the new official creed, with the practices of Buddhism and Catholicism punishable by death. All books published before April 17, 1975 were ordered to be burned. In a quest for extinction of lives, the genocide of an estimated 2 million (somewhere between one-quarter to one-third of the entire population of the country) began on that date.[4]

Many of the leaders of the Cambodian genocide developed their appalling Communist philosophy at leftist universities in France and the US. The Cambodian genocide included an emphasis on back-to-nature, anti-property, organic food produced with no technology, and alternative, non-western medicine; an Al Gore utopia. If you want to know what society the new-age leftist socialist environmental-wacko movement would lead to, just look at the Communist Khmer Rouge of Cambodia.

Conclusion

Communism and Socialism are the evil twins that Satan has used to accomplish his purpose, that being, to stop the progress of the gospel. The preaching of Jesus is not allowed in such countries.

Socialism means the loss of freedom. Initially it appeals to the flesh as people falsely believe the state will take care of them and freely provide for their needs. In the end all they find is that the state has taken away their freedoms; their freedom of speech, freedom of where to live and work, freedom to travel, freedom to worship. The devil holds out socialism as a promised utopia, but in the end imprisons its followers in a living hell.

Let every soldier know that when they fight communism on foreign lands, they are waging war against Satan’s own government. And let every American know that when they vote for liberals that promise more free stuff though more socialism, they are being seduced by the siren song of Satan, who’s desire is to ultimately steal your money, your hopes, your dreams, your faith, your freedom and your country.

  1. Absolute nonsense. Our cultures are truly very different. I have told you my views elsewhere. Something like 60% of Scottish people would describe themselves as Socialist or with underlying socialist principles. We have nothing to do with Satan. I’m sorry Pastor Mark, but your views on socialism are more wacky than Bro Swag’s views on religion. You say he has an aberrant theology. You have an aberrant political philosophy. I don’t mind someone not being a Socialist, (they are called Tories here and they care only about themselves and the furtherance of their power), but you should not be insulting another country like Scotland. Our Socialism has done you no harm.
Socialism produced our NHS which is the envy of the world. Also our education system, again based on socialist principles, works to ensure that poor children as well as rich children get equal opportunities in education and employment. The only people destroying our hopes, dreams, country, etc. are the far right government in England.
I hope you aren’t coming to “fight” us. I think you will find that the socialists of all of Europe would come to our defence. Come and live here for a year and learn about real socialism. And can some of you over there, let your President know before he makes his unwelcome visit here, that he cannot insult disabled people, women, LGBT folk, people of a different colour, Mexicans, I could go on forever. And he cannot hold the Queen’s hand! like he does with everyone else. What you see as dictatorship and control, we see as protection of the vulnerable and alienated. With respect, you have no idea how bizarre your political views sound to people here. I forgive you as you can’t help the culture you have grown up in, but I still feel very insulted. Shouldn’t you just stick to religion?

    1. Also forgot to say that the most Socialist region of the UK – Scotland- has the highest church attendances, number of denominations, religious practice, etc!

  2. Wonderful article. I’m a Latina living in the US and I’ll be rejecting the murdering of unborn babies, the execution of babies that they failed to assassinate in the abortion room. Our life has become so cheap that they dispose of the babies’ parts as if they were merchandise. I’ll be rejecting the socialist agenda that would put us by the millions under food stamps, because it’s a way to tell us that our talents worth nothing, that we are incapable of make a living, that is the most insulting ideology to my human condition. I’ll be rejecting governors and mayor choosing winners & losers. I’m fed up with the fact that if you refuse to be abused the media and the Democratic socialists label you as “dangerous” while rioters & looters are encouraged to keep up the job they do for them. In fact they celebrate them and honor them. I’ve seen how the “social” gospel works, and the “social gospel” is not my faith. I’m fed up with race war instigated by these Democratic Socialist, they don’t see us as Americans, but like a mass of human flesh they are entitled to tell us what to do and when to do it. They want to rob us our faith in which all men are equal, not only before the law, but before our Lord.

For FYI, I want to share this information with you.
The article doesn’t cover this part: “”In this field the People’s State will have to repair the damage that arises from the fact that the problem is at present neglected by all the various parties concerned. It will be the task of the People’s State to make the race the centre of the life of the community. (…) Finally, it is the business of the People’s State to arrange for the writing of a world history in which the race problem will occupy a dominant position. (…)The young boy or girl who is of German nationality and is a subject of the German State is bound to complete the period of school education which is obligatory for every German. Thereby he submits to the system of training which will make him conscious of his race and a member of the folk community. (…) The folkish philosophy is fundamentally distinguished from the Marxist by reason of the fact that the former recognizes the significance of race and therefore also personal worth and has made these the pillars of its structure.” My Struggle. A. Hitler.
It sounds like the critical race theory, so popular among the socialist in the US.

    1. Hi PepaP, Thanks for your compliment and your comment. The quote from Hitler is interesting. Most people don’t realize that Hitler was a socialist.

      God Bless,

  3. I’ve changed my mind from what I previously wrote. This is a superbly well written article, said in a way that only Pastor Mark can do.
I can be forgiven for previous errors, misunderstandings though. I’m British and we were never taught or properly informed about Vietnam and Cambodia and had our own ideas about America. I don’t hold those ideas now.
