Is Candace Owens a Christian? Candace Owens has become a prominent conservative personality, famous for her bold commentary and cultural criticism. She also claims to be a Christian, but is she? For Christians, particularly those who evaluate public figures through the lens of Scripture, her recent conduct raises serious concerns. Her antisemitic statements about Israel, her increasingly crude language, and her public alignment with Roman Catholicism reveal patterns that do not reflect the biblical marks of someone who has been born again (John 3:3–8).
This article examines three areas:
- Her public rhetoric concerning Israel and the Jewish people
- Her ongoing use of vulgar and profane language
- The theological implications of her conversion to Roman Catholicism, which does not teach key biblical doctrines necessary for salvation
Candace Owens’ Antisemitic and Anti-Israel Rhetoric
Candace Owens has made a number of public statements that drew strong criticism from Jewish leaders, conservative commentators, and Christians. While she denies being antisemitic, her words tell another story, showing that she is hostile toward Israel and dismissive of Jewish suffering.
Consider the following examples, all widely documented in mainstream news coverage:
- Claiming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “genocidal ambitions” against Palestinians. This language was condemned as inflammatory and factually extreme, and it aligned closely with rhetoric used by anti-Israel activists. Her repetition of lies spread by Hamas show her lack of discernment. Her comments minimized Israel’s God-given and legal right to defend itself against terrorism, and they brushed aside well-documented evidence that Hamas routinely uses civilians—including women and children—as human shields, stores weapons in hospitals and schools, and deliberately inflates casualty numbers to manipulate world opinion..
- Publicly referencing themes and tropes strongly associated with antisemitic narratives.
This included posts that many Jewish groups condemned as echoing classic antisemitic stereotypes. Even her former employer, Ben Shapiro, accused her of crossing lines of propriety and decency in her rhetoric.
While she insists she is not antisemitic, her public language has repeatedly aligned her with anti-Israel and anti-Jewish arguments used by the political left and various extremist movements. Scripture warns concerning Israel, “I will bless those who bless you, and curse him who curses you” (Genesis 12:3) and further cautions Christians to be careful not to be “arrogant against the branches” (Jews) because they are the very foundation of the Christian Church (Romans 11:18). Jesus himself said, “salvation is from the Jews” (John 4:22). Christians have every reason to be deeply troubled by rhetoric that undermines or maligns the Jewish people.
Candace Owens’ Public Use of Profanity and Crude Language
When considering the question: Is Candace Owens a Christian, another point of concern is Owens’ frequent profanity in interviews and broadcasts. Even after publicly announcing her conversion to Catholicism, videos and clips circulated of her using vulgar and degrading language toward opponents and cultural groups.
For someone claiming to represent Christian faith, this is not a trivial matter. Scripture commands:
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths.” (Ephesians 4:29)
“From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” (James 3:10)
“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them.” (Ephesians 5:4-7)
A genuinely regenerated believer experiences conviction regarding speech. Crude, profane, or reviling language falls away as the Holy Spirit transforms character (2 Corinthians 5:17). Owens’ public conduct shows no such restraint.
Candace Owens’ Conversion to Roman Catholicism
Owens conversion to Catholicism is a theological departure from Biblical salvation. In April 2024, Candace Owens publicly announced that she had joined the Roman Catholic Church. For many evangelicals, this does not provide evidence of authentic conversion — rather, it signals the opposite.
Roman Catholicism does not teach three core doctrines that Scripture presents as essential to the new birth:
- Salvation by Grace Through Faith Alone
Ephesians 2:8–9 teaches salvation is a free gift, apart from works. Catholicism, however, teaches justification is infused through sacraments and maintained by ongoing participation in the Church. This contradicts the finished work of Christ.
- The Immediate New Birth Through Personal Faith in Christ
Jesus taught, “You must be born again” (John 3:3). Catholicism equates new birth with water baptism, including infant baptism, rather than a personal, conscious act of repentance and faith.
- Assurance of Salvation Based on Christ’s Finished Work
John 5:24 and 1 John 5:13 teach the believer can know he has eternal life. Catholicism denies assurance, teaching that salvation must be continually merited through sacraments administered by a priest.
These doctrines matter deeply. Joining an institution that denies these essential truths is not evidence of regeneration, but rather evidence that Owens has embraced a system historically opposed to the biblical gospel.
Conclusion: Is Candace Owens a Christian?
Based on the biblical marks of regeneration:
- A clear repentance-and-faith testimony
- A transformed life and speech
- Separation from false religion
- A love for God’s Word and God’s chosen people, Israel
- Christ-centered doctrine
- Consistent church fellowship grounded in Scripture
There is no public evidence that Candace Owens has been born again.
Her rhetoric against Israel, her continued use of profanity, and her public embrace of Roman Catholicism all point in the opposite direction.
As Christians, we must evaluate fruit — not fame. Jesus said:
“You will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:16)
And in this case, the fruit speaks for itself.
